Repair and reinstall modules on this page assume a Bedrock client. Mac and Linux PCs run Java Edition only, so a Windows Store repair will not import a Mac/Linux Java world into Bedrock, and those machines have no Bedrock binary to Repair.

Install, verify, and recover safely

Download or reinstall Minecraft Bedrock from this page. Use the modules below when install fails, an update breaks worlds, or you need to reinstall without losing saves.

Pre-install checks

Run before first purchase or before a major patch on Windows:

  • Confirm OS build: Windows 10 version 19041.0+ or Windows 11 (see requirements table).
  • Sign into the correct Microsoft account in Store before buying; child accounts need Family approval for purchases.
  • Free 4 GB+ RAM and several GB storage for download plus world growth.
  • On shared PCs, verify no other profile already owns the license under a different account.
  • For console/mobile: use the platform store tied to the account that will play (Xbox, PSN, Nintendo, Apple, Google).
  • Reject APK, "free Bedrock" mirrors, and repacks; publisher must be Mojang Studios / Microsoft. → Repair file sources

Post-install verification

After Store finishes installing, confirm the client works before spending on Marketplace maps:

  1. Launch from Start menu or Store library; complete Microsoft account sign-in.
  2. Open Settings > About and note the version string.
  3. Create or open a single-player test world; save, exit, reload.
  4. Optional: invite one friend to confirm multiplayer and version match.
  5. Full checklist: post-update verification (same steps after patches).

Safe backup before reinstall or repair

Repair and reinstall can fix Store licensing errors but may risk local worlds if you skip exports:

Restore: on platforms that expose file import, use Play → Import → select .mcworld. Consoles do not generally expose direct .mcworld import/export; use a Realm to transfer a world when that route is available to the account. Details: world recovery flow. This site does not store player backup files.

Install failure boundaries

Often licensing or sign-in on Windows. Try wsreset.exe, Repair in Apps & features, confirm game in Library. → Error reference

After failed reinstall

Import the last .mcworld where file import is supported, or verify the downloaded Realm copy, before deleting remaining world slots. Do not use third-party "save editors" from unknown sites.

Repair vs reinstall on Windows

When Bedrock will not launch or Store shows license errors, choose the least destructive option first:

Mac and Linux run Java Edition only—not Bedrock. For cross-play you need Windows, console, or mobile.

If Bedrock runs but stutters, compare your hardware to the recommended row before blaming network. Integrated GPUs can launch the game yet struggle with Render Distance above modest settings or with RTX packs enabled. Lower video settings first; reinstall rarely fixes performance-only issues. Driver updates from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel are the usual PC step after confirming vanilla worlds run smoothly.

Frequently asked questions

Bedrock Dedicated Server (BDS)

To host a Bedrock multiplayer server on Windows or Ubuntu, download server software only from Mojang—not from this site. Accept the EULA on the official page before downloading. Back up server.properties and world folders before server updates.

Official server download

Windows and 64-bit Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or later builds, preview channels, and protocol documentation are published on minecraft.net. Mojang states that other Linux distributions are not supported.
